Window Cleaning Supplies

If you are determined to get your house spic and span, especially the problem areas which are your windows, then better be ready with the window cleaning supplies you are going to need. Basically, there are three steps to cleaning a window: the first is washing, second is rinsing, and the third is buffing.

So what are the basic tools that you will need when you want to clean your windows? First, be sure you have a bucket of water. You will use this for rinsing your windows. Next, you must have a spray bottle with cleaning solution inside. Other people don't use spray bottles anymore, as they apply their cleaning solution using a sponge, while they are wearing gloves. You should also have sponges and rags. If you have a squeegee with a scrubber, then those can substitute for the sponges and rags. Be sure to have newspapers on hand, as you can place them on the floor to prevent spills.

What is the purpose of the squeegee and the scrubber? The scrubber is on one side of the tool, which is made of foam or sponge. You dip this portion onto your cleaning solution and scrub it across your windows. Most squeegees and scrubbers come with telescopic poles to allow you to reach higher windows without the aid of a ladder. The squeegee on the opposite face of the scrubber is made of rubber, which is used to wipe off the solution from the glass to leave no streak marks. Most window cleaning experts recommend that you move the squeegee across the glass in a horizontal motion, starting on one side, and ending on the other side always. You must wipe the squeegee clean with a rag before using it again on the window.

What are the cleaning solutions that can be used when trying to get the dirt and deposits on windows? You can use an acidic and disinfecting solution by combining half a cup of vinegar with half a cup of ammonia and a gallon of water. Be sure to use gloves when applying this on your window. Also, if you want to use a mild cleaner, mix some cornstarch with water and apply it on your window. Buff it dry with a clean towel.

Window Cleaning Tip #1

Plan First! If you want to start a window cleaning business, then take the time to create a plan of attack as to how you are going to operate your window cleaning business. It is a little more complicated than just knowing how to properly clean a window. Plan out your finances, goals, advertising, training, growth strategy, and everything else you will need to run your business. Planning it all out before you start will save you in the end.

Window Cleaning Tip #2

If your window washing company is fairly well established and your finances are up to it, purchasing a water fed pole and de-ionized water set up can drastically improve your profits by allowing you to complete large jobs faster and with excellent quality. Be aware though that they are rather expensive, so if you do not have enough clientele to keep your WFP in use, then you are better off waiting until you are bigger to buy one.

Window Cleaning Tip #3

Do not buy cheap equipment! Window cleaning is not a very equipment intensive business and the equipment you do need is very affordable. So don't waste your money buying cheap squeegees and other equipment. Invest in top quality equipment and it will last for years with only a minor amount of basic maintenance.
